It allows agents to contact HMRC directly to resolve certain problems concerning PAYE and Self-assessment for queries that have not been resolved by the agent&#8217;s dedicated line or web chat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During March, HMRC emailed agents with details of a new resolution service, on 31.03.2025 HMRC published the guidance for the Agent Resolution Service<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how the Agent Resolution Service works and what agents should know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Purpose of the Agent Resolution Service<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Agent Resolution Service is designed to streamline communication between agents and HMRC, helping to address issues only concerning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PAYE<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Self \u2013 Assessment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. When to Use the Agent Resolution Service<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This service can be used for queries that have not been resolved by the agent&#8217;s dedicated line or web chat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before using the service, the agents must have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contacted HMRC\u2019s agent dedicated line or web chat on at least two occasions to try to resolve the queries;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Used the dedicated tool \u201cHMRC\u2019s where\u2019s my reply\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Passed at least 20 working days from the reply date given by the tool at the portal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. How It Works and how to access:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Contacting HMRC<\/strong>: the agent will email a dedicated mailbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Updates from HMRC<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>contacts the agent within 48 hours to acknowledge the query<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>provides an update every 5 working days by telephone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>aims to resolve the agent\u2019s query within 20 working days, or make an action plan if HMRC can\u2019t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To be able to resolve the query promptly, HMRC asks that the agent:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>provides all relevant information and documentation that HMRC asks for;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>responds promptly to requests for information or clarification; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>refrains from chasing a query before the 20 working days have passed.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Additional Considerations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Limitations<\/strong>: Not all queries or disputes may be eligible for resolution through the Agent Resolution Service.
